Behavioral Ecology of Bale Monkeys in the Harenna Forest of the Bale Mountains, Ethiopia
Kumara Wakjira (M.Sc. candidate, Moi University, Kenya)
Kumara's project focuses on the feeding ecology and activity patterns of the elusive Bale Monkey (Chlorocebus djamdjamensis). Bale monkeys are endemic to Ethiopia and inhabit montane bamboo forests, on which they appear to be dependent. Kumara's study is one of the first to document the basic ecological parameters of the Bale monkey, with the goal of determining its habitat requirements and role in the bamboo forest ecosystem. Results of Kumara's study will inform management priorities of the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority.
